Neighborhood Care
New residents will move into one of three “neighborhoods”– Rehabilitation, Long Term Care, or Special Care. Each unit is specifically designed to care for the individual needs of the resident. Depending on the “neighborhood,” you can select a companion room with a shared bathroom, a private room, or a suite. The latter is perfect for couples and those desiring additional living space. All rooms are furnished with a built-in dresser, bedside table, chair, and cable access. The rooms, lounges, and corridors are spacious and allow adequate space for those who use wheelchairs or walking aids. Residents are encouraged to bring some of their personal possessions with them to The Gables and decorate their rooms as they would their own home.
At the entrance to each neighborhood is an employee work station, the hub of daily interaction between the nursing staff and residents. It’s here that staff can observe several residents while monitoring the personal needs of each resident. An individually tailored care plan supports a resident’s ability to care for his or her own personal needs. This includes bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, eating and walking or wheelchair mobility.
The wings in each neighborhood end with a spacious lounge where residents gather for social time or to quietly sit and observe outdoor activity. Some lounges include large televisions and kitchenettes. Families are welcome to use any of these areas as an expansion of their loved one’s room for routine visits, special gatherings and celebrations. Secured courtyards on the Long Term Care and Special Care units allow space for these events to go outdoors during appropriate weather.
Visitors are always welcome at The Gables. As a matter of fact, we encourage family members to stop in at any time, seven days a week. After hours, when the administrative offices are closed, the doors at the main entrance are locked for the safety and security of our residents. An alarm system and speaker may be used for admission during non-business hours. All other doors are secured at all times.
